    The vision

Ignite the Altar: A Royal Priesthood for the Nation

In May 2026, I saw a vision of a multitude of people lying face down at the altar, crying out to God for mercy over a nation in crisis. They were the Church, the royal priesthood, standing in the gap for their land. The altar was the place of mercy and sacrifice, where people seek God in humility, hunger and repentance.

The vision was confronting. Altar calls and messages of repentance have faded from many pulpits. The Church in Australia is too often divided, both between denominations and within congregations. We have embraced our calling as kings, taking ground and extending the Kingdom, but we have forgotten that we are equally called to be priests (Rev. 1:6; 1 Pet. 2:9). A king rules with assertive dominion. A priest ministers with humble devotion. Scripture calls us to be both.

Our nation is under strain. People face a rising cost of living, a housing crisis and growing homelessness. Mental and chronic illness have reached epidemic levels, divisions are deepening, and our leaders have turned from God. These mirror the patterns of national judgment in Scripture. In such a time, the Church must return to her priestly posture: to stand between God and the nation and lead the way in repentance.

Priests bring sacrifices, and God hears when the sacrifice is right. Scripture names those sacrifices:

    • turning from our wicked ways
    • prayer and petition
    • praise
    • doing good and giving
    • lives laid down as living sacrifices (2 Chron. 7:14; Heb. 5:7; 13:15–16; Rom. 12:1)

Above all, God hears the humble. He resists the proud, but he gives grace to those who come in humility and reverent submission, and he turns his ear to them. The promise of 2 Chronicles 7:14 is healing for the land.

Christ became both priest and sacrifice on the Cross, opening the way to mercy once and for all. Now we draw near to God directly. As we offer our praise, prayer, worship, fasting and repentance, our hearts are set on fire. Devoted sacrifice carries spiritual power. Where other beliefs are served with greater devotion than Christ, they draw people in. Witchcraft is one of them, now popularised through books, shops and social media. The strength of the Church’s devotion will shape the spiritual climate of our region and the power of our witness.

    When hearts burn, nations turn.

That is the call of Ignite the Altar. It gathers believers from across churches and streams as one priesthood, in humility, hunger and reverent submission. Together we worship, praise, pray, repent, intercede, prophesy and minister at the altar. The call began with prayer and worship gatherings in Perth city in 2026, but the vision reaches further. Through ignited prayer, we will keep the altar of our hearts burning until holy fire spreads across the land, judgment is turned, and a nation returns to the God whose mercy triumphs over judgment.
